DJ Spoony
is currently to be heard as part of the Dreem
Teem, who present their own show on Radio
1 every Sunday from 10am-1pm, as well as hosting
"The Dreem Teem Presents" late Sunday
nights.
Over the summer Spoony could be seen on
Saturday Mornings, bright and early presenting
Soccer AM, live from SKY. He has made a
major mark on BBC Radio Five Live where
his radio show DJ Spoony Meets involved
him talking with the biggest names from
football on a very personal basis. As if
this wasn't enough, he was awarded a MOBO
in 2001 for DJ of the year.
Spoony and the Dreem Teem also present their
own TV show, broadcast from their penthouse
flat in Bethnal Green in their own inimitable
style and entitled 'That Dreem Teem Thing'
which goes out on Saturday afternoons on
Play UK.
DJ Spoony's broadcasting career has gone
from strength to strength since the days
of hosting his own show on a local pirate
radio station. He has presented both daytime
and specialist shows on Kiss 100FM, combining
his innovative DJing style with enthusiastic
chat with both listeners and celebrities
alike. Guests have included Will Smith,
Spike Lee and Ian Wright. Before landing
the Radio 1 job his fun loving banter could
be heard every Friday night, as he and the
Dreem Teem kicked off the weekend on Galaxy.
The media friendly DJ has also crossed over
into the world of television too. Spoony
was to be heard as the narrator on Channel
4's music show "Flava", in addition
to regular appearances on LWT's "Club-a-Vision"
and MTV.
He has already left a permanent mark in
international clubland as a member of the
Dreem Teem (with Timmi Magic and Mikee B),
and individually with his residency at London's
"Twice as Nice", the Mecca of
underground garage clubbing. Added to this
are non-stop bookings at venues scheduled
over the UK and Europe, including successive
summers in Ibiza and Ayai Napa, Cyprus.
The national top 30 hit "Dreem Teem
Theme" has led to working on multiple
re-mixes for artists including Shola Ama,
All Saints and American superstar Faith
Evans. The recent single "Buddy X '99'"
featuring Neneh Cherry, was a massive top
10 hit.
With all these fingers in the big pie of
the industry, its no wonder Spoony has received
many accolades. In "Blues and Soul"
magazine, a nomination for "Best Radio
DJ of '98", came in the same year as
the Dreem Teem being nominated for the "Best
Club DJs" at the prestigious MOBO Awards.
1999 saw no let up in his quest for excellence,
receiving a second nomination at the awards
ceremony on the black music calendar.
A month doesn't go by without his name and
face cropping up in magazines such as "The
Face", "Arena" and "Company
- Bachelor of the Year". Spoony's own
journalistic skills are displayed monthly
in his column "Ear To The Underground",
published in "Touch" magazine,
this in addition to record reviews in "Muzik"
magazine.
