Luckystrike: HOW LONG HAVE
YOU BEEN IN THE GARAGE SCENE?
Martin Larner: Did my first
set at a night called 'happy days' @gass
club in Leicester
Sq in July 1994
Luckystrike: HOW LONG HAVE
YOU BEEN DJing?
Martin Larner: In my bedroom
since 1990 in clubs since 1994.
Luckystrike: WHERE DO YOU
GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
Martin Larner: The people
that started dance music as a whole, the
one's that were willing to put their balls
on the line in the first place for us to
be
here now doing our shit!
Luckystrike: ARE THERE
ANY PRODUCERS AT THE MOMENT WHO YOU RATE?
Martin Larner: Jon E Cash,
sticky, Bigshot, Teebone, TnT, Zinc, Menta/DnD,
Benga.
Luckystrike: WAS IT HARD
BREAKING INTO THE SCENE?
Martin Larner: I did 5-6
hr residencies in the shitest clubs just
to get experience
playing all types of dance music for about
the first 2yrs and just
started getting the odd bookings on top
of that, and it just went from
there really.
Luckystrike: WHAT DO YOU
THINK OF THE CURRENT UK GARAGE SCENE?
Martin Larner: Its in a
state of change, which is good I think,
(I don't agree with
the violence etc but that's not just Garage
clubs its happening, we just
get the finger pointed at us all the time)
there are to many heads in
the scene that don't like progression and
are trying to hold on to the
past, I think everyone should just do what
they feel and let the strong
survive. Look at drum and bass....you have
dark, intelligent, vocal,
experimental, hardstep, jungle, old skool
everything all side by side
and flourishing, why cant garage be like
that???
Luckystrike:. WHAT DJ'S,
MC'S AND STATIONS DO YOU RATE?
Martin Larner: I rate anyone
who's out there pushing things forward and
opening more doors for others to follow.
I like hearing people hold a mix as well,
and mc's that appriciate what im doing and
not just there biggin up
there mates! Freeze Fm 92.7 and Rinse 100.3
are the only stations worth
listening to out there now.
Luckystrike: WHAT OTHER
TYPES OF MUSIC DO U LISTEN TO?
Martin Larner: Drum &
Bass, Old Skool & New skool Hip Hop
(not Rnb!!) and I like some house as well.
Most of the time ill just have the radio
on tho and
listen to everything.
Luckystrike: IS THERE ANY
CHANCE OF YOU GETTING INTO PRODUCTION?
Martin Larner: Ive dabbled
a bit in the past so maybe! Ill let you
know!
Luckystrike: DO YOU THINK
THE INTERNET FORUMS ARE A GOOD THING?
Martin Larner: Yeah as
long as people don't chat shit! I don't
care If people want to criticise me, ive
put myself in the spotlight so cool, but
sometimes
people just get stupid!
Luckystrike: WHERE DO YOU
SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
Martin Larner: Still here
doing my thing!
Luckystrike: WHAT CAN WE
EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Martin Larner: Ive just
set up a distribution company called NON
STOP so I when im not
dj'ing I will be focusing all my energy
into that...If we are gonna
survive out there we need to be in control
of what we are doing.
