Gass
Event: Memories
DJ’s: Dominic Spreadlove, EZ, &
Charlie Brown
MC’s: Sharky P, Blakey, & Ricky
D
Arrived at Gass about 12:00 and Dominic
Spreadlove was on the decks with Ricky D
on the MIC. Dominic was playing a blend
of House and Garage (or Speed Garage as
it was once known) from 93 to 97 and it
was a case of tune after tune making everyone
dance and rave which was complemented by
the tight mixing throughout the whole set.
It was tunes like Anytime – Nu-birth,
Just gets better – TJR, What you want
– Industry Standard, and Control –
MJ Cole that brought back the Memories and
really made the night what it was.
It wasn’t really about the MC’s
it was all about the tunes and at about
1:00 Sharky P took over the MIC from Ricky
D and went about mcing his normal way letting
people enjoy the tunes and chatting lyrics
when the time was right, it was the same
story with Blakey just letting people enjoy
the tunes but at the same time hyping them
up. B-Live made an appearance during EZ’s
set but wasn’t mcing on the night
just enjoying the music like everyone else.
Most of the hyping up was done by the man
himself and at 2:00 the time come for the
‘Master of Garage’ to step up
and by then the whole place was rammed and
you could tell everyone had been waiting
for this set. EZ came in usual style with
one of his classic intro tunes that got
every one going. What followed was some
of the best mixing I’ve ever heard,
he dropped about 5 tunes in the space of
about 4 minutes and it was a mix of old
skool house and 4/4 garage. It was about
tunes like Show me love - Robin S, Blues
for You – Logic, a few Todd’s
and Tuff Jam, in not so many words ‘EZ
Smashed it’. The thing that makes
EZ the best in the industry is the absolute
tightest mixing you can get, they way that
he can drop a tune in and make the crowd
go mad and get every single person in the
club to dance non stop throughout the whole
set, Friday was just another showcase of
this mans ability.
Even though it was very hot in the club
people managed to stay cool and the attitude
of everyone in the club topped the night
off, everyone was just dancing and enjoying
the selection I saw no fights, no arguments
and no people standing around screwing.
The only bloodshed was when someone received
an elbow to the face by somebody dancing
which was an accident.
I’m definitely going to the next
Memories very, very heavy night.
