Gass Club Feb 2002

Club: Gass
Event: Memories
DJ’s: Dominic Spreadlove, EZ, & Charlie Brown
MC’s: Sharky P, Blakey, & Ricky D

Arrived at Gass about 12:00 and Dominic Spreadlove was on the decks with Ricky D on the MIC. Dominic was playing a blend of House and Garage (or Speed Garage as it was once known) from 93 to 97 and it was a case of tune after tune making everyone dance and rave which was complemented by the tight mixing throughout the whole set. It was tunes like Anytime – Nu-birth, Just gets better – TJR, What you want – Industry Standard, and Control – MJ Cole that brought back the Memories and really made the night what it was.

It wasn’t really about the MC’s it was all about the tunes and at about 1:00 Sharky P took over the MIC from Ricky D and went about mcing his normal way letting people enjoy the tunes and chatting lyrics when the time was right, it was the same story with Blakey just letting people enjoy the tunes but at the same time hyping them up. B-Live made an appearance during EZ’s set but wasn’t mcing on the night just enjoying the music like everyone else.

Most of the hyping up was done by the man himself and at 2:00 the time come for the ‘Master of Garage’ to step up and by then the whole place was rammed and you could tell everyone had been waiting for this set. EZ came in usual style with one of his classic intro tunes that got every one going. What followed was some of the best mixing I’ve ever heard, he dropped about 5 tunes in the space of about 4 minutes and it was a mix of old skool house and 4/4 garage. It was about tunes like Show me love - Robin S, Blues for You – Logic, a few Todd’s and Tuff Jam, in not so many words ‘EZ Smashed it’. The thing that makes EZ the best in the industry is the absolute tightest mixing you can get, they way that he can drop a tune in and make the crowd go mad and get every single person in the club to dance non stop throughout the whole set, Friday was just another showcase of this mans ability.

Even though it was very hot in the club people managed to stay cool and the attitude of everyone in the club topped the night off, everyone was just dancing and enjoying the selection I saw no fights, no arguments and no people standing around screwing. The only bloodshed was when someone received an elbow to the face by somebody dancing which was an accident.

I’m definitely going to the next Memories very, very heavy night.

Bojanglez/Pulse Nightclub March 2002

Club: Bojanglez
Event: garage influence
Date: thursday 28th march
DJ’s: Sean T, Antonio, Magic B, I.C, gridlock, Lucky Strike, Jaycee B, Paul flex Payne, Live PA : Lady Libra
MC’s: DT, Remedy, Tails, Tippa, Scotty, Ricardo, Ma$e, Ethic

T he 2SG crew arrived at Bos about 10:30, just as DJ Antonio started to play. Mc's already playing were scooby and another Lady MC who we did not recognise although she sounded very similar to Ms Dynamite. the Club was already very busy, and the dance floor was starting to get busy, usually the club's dead untill pub kick out time. MC Tail's was then up on the mic and the dance floor began to fill as he blasted out his popularly known lyrics.

As we took a few pictures people were really keen to get in the photo's and keen to now what they were for. After a few more photo's of the crowd and the promoters, we ventured up onto the stage where it wasnt so busy, got to meet most of the other DJ's and MC's who were about to play.

MC DT was the next on the MIC and he never fails to get the crowd going, Chattin all the lyrics from masters of ceremonies the dance floor was full and i wish i wasnt stuck with this Dumb Camera!!!! Sean T was next to DJ and the set he played was Blinding. He turned up with the rest of the Genius Crew one of them being Keflon and i think everyone was hoping for a quick appearance the mic but i think it must have been his night off cos he looked well up for gettin lashed with a bottle of beer in each hand and a reefer!
Lady Libras Live PA was to follow, and from past experiences we havent been that impressed with live pas in clubs, but this was an exception. Her singing was exceptional and her MCing would have battled most lady MC's off of the stage!. She Performed two of her tracks and we cant wait for her to release more of them to the public. watch this space for anyupdates on future releases.

Up on the decks after the live PA saw the aylesbury allstars from upfront FM who played for the next two hours, there was a good selection of tracks rinsed and the MC's were crisp and MC'ed in a similar style to MC stevie a. At this time the club had emptied out considerably but with the dancing crw still going on strong on the dance floor DJ lucky Strike was on the decks. Playing all the crowd pleasers he played a really good set and kept everyone dancing till the end of the night. Mad Hatter entertained everyone from the stage with his shapes.

The whole night went without a hitch, and the only bit of trouble was when sum rudeboy wanted to dance on stage with lady libra but wouldnt step down when he was told to get off the stage. The promoter Julian was swift to knock him off the stage and escort him through one of the fire exits. Its good to see the promoters dealing with the punters personally these days. A Quality Night was had by the 2stepgarage team and you can see this by the photo's!!! We want to see a club night like this more often!

Big shout to Julian for a heavy night!!!!
