DJ SL

How long have you been DJing? Just over 6 years from the day I got my first beat mix and started doing my own radio show.

How did you get started? It has always been something that got me excited, the whole DJ culture. And had messed around with old turntables off a sony midi system when i was like 16. When I started university I discovered the radio station, and it had a pair of deck, so I went out bought a couple of vinyl (Bonze - DJ SS and some next tunem the jungle days) and stayed in the studio till I figured out "this beat mixing thing". After a few hours I had my very first beat mix.

Who was your inspiration/s? The whole HipHop culture was somthing that gave me a buzz and 'the DJ' is a big part of it the scratching ete so all the old skool hiphop DJ's like Grandmaster Flash, more recently DJ Hype, Q-Bert, Shortcut, and we can't for get EZ its that energy that he got when he's in the mix.

What would you be doing if you weren't a DJ? I haven't got a clue.

What do you think about the commercialisation of UK Garage? There is the good and the bad. You damned if its commercialised you damned if it ain't. Well positive side is a lot of people are getting recognision and making some dollars, more importantly its pushing the UK's flava, its sound, britains answer to HipHop (as a culture) to the world. And its catching on and Im working hard to push this further using internet streaming technology. .

What other sort of music are you into? R&B/HipHop/Ragga/Old Skool Jungle, always have always will. Feeling some of the new funky stuff coming out like the bushwacker rmx of 'Billie Jean'.

Favourite Club/Venue? P'zzaz and Abyss in Napa (both for DJing and being the punter)

Favourite Garage Tune of all time? ohhh, tough one here, "Sorry" - Monsta Boy is definitly ONE of my all time Favourite, but THE all time tune is "It's A London Thing"

Favourite Garage Tune at the moment? There ain't nothing that stands out at the moment, some very good tunes out though that do drop.

Any advice for up and coming DJs? Many bits of advice, but I'll keep then to my self till I'm "up" there.

Any Residencys? Surrey Uni and Hertfordshire Uni.

Any Shout Outs? DiGiTAL, DJ Prime, MC Madhatter, MC K Destiny, all Uptownrecords forum crew, UKGW Forum crew, Jess J, Doug C, Upfront FM crew, Danny C, Jodie @ DFL, D'Lush @ Lyrical Lush, Leroy Wilson, Oli UKG FM, Sarah @ Double Trouble, however many shouts I give I'm gonna forget someone cos there too many. Bigup each and every person I know that has and still does help and support me and my venture.
