112
SAY NA NA NA NA |
|
112
will release their fourth album in August
on Def Soul Records after enduring an
18-month legal battle with former label,
Bad Boy Entertainments. P Diddy and
Island Def Jam head Lyor Cohen were
able to reach a resolution which entitles
P Diddy to a percentage of the proceeds
from the yet-untitled upcoming album.
Group member Q advised that the group
was able to continue touring during
the label dispute and were fortunately
able to stay financially stable - "The
good thing about being in the industry
for seven years and three albums that
have gone double platinum each time
around is, you got hits". "So
we were still able to do shows".
Q continued, "So during the time
that we were going through the little
label situation, we were still able
to go out and tour, do shows, and still
provide a living for ourselves."
112 will release their new single, "Na
Na Na Na" featuring Sean Paul in
June. |

MURDER
INC- ACCUSED |
|
IAn
investigation of Murder Inc has resulted
in the label being accused of receiving
funds raised by drug money from reputed
druglord Kenneth "Supreme"
McGriff (who also had a hand in the
2000 shooting of rapper 50 Cent). The
charges also state that Supreme is the
acting head of the label and not CEO
Irv Gotti. According to an Internal
Revenue Service agent, Supreme returned
to criminal activity after being released
from prison in 1995 and utilised Murder
Inc to make his actions - "McGriff
began transporting narcotics from New
York to the Baltimore, Maryland area
among other locations. Thereafter, in
an effort to launder his drug money,
McGriff helped found the Murder Inc
record label, utilizing the proceeds
from his drug empire". "In
addition, the investigation has revealed
McGriff's involvement in several highly
publicised shootings and homicides related
to the narcotics trafficking and the
rap industry. Murder Inc in turn exploits
McGriff's notoriety for business advantage,
instilling fear in members of the music
industry." The IRS reports that
the alleged criminal link between Murder
Inc and Supreme was verified through
monitoring of 2way pagers and information
obtained in a series of raids. Supreme
is currently in jail for unrelated charges
and awaits sentencing for illegal gun
possession charges. Irv Gotti has not
been available for comment but his lawyer
told the New York Daily News the charges
were "totally baseless". The
saga continues.. |
