How
long have you been MCing?
Just over a year.
How
did you get started?
Started listening to speed
garage when i was around 13,
listened to My older sister's
CD's Speedgarage Anthems etc
hehehe! my current boyfriend
back then was into Garage
and was an MC, (he's now moved
to singing though). I used
to just mess around with lyrics
and put them on my voicemail,
people heard and gave me encouragement
to do more. Never really thought
much about it until i started
MCing at parties and local
clubs with people telling
me positive things. I used
to go to a theatre school
when i was about 8 and left
around 12-ish dancing, singing
and drama. Just always wanted
to perform!
Started
taking every chance i had
at getting on the mic at raves
and started from there.
Won
a live call phone in MCing
competition on Flex FM last
year and was asked to go in
the following week for a wet
with Hyperactive which happened
to be the day of my birthday
(my 16th) :) 19th march. Got
a bit of recognition from
there, promoters here and
there.
Saw
an advert on Uk-rumble fm
from Frances and I hooked
up with him to feature on
a remix of Soul Providers
"Rise" AM:PM records, still
out now i think. We destiny2do
another track - "bad girl
flow" and then Wind and Grind
aswell which was produced
by Frances James and DJ Face.
Its out soon, on promo to
solo recs, and Arista BMG,
as I am just currently in
the middle of signing to them.
Thanks
to people like Dreem Teem
- making it their 30 yarder
on Radio one and playing it
each week on their show a
while back, Masterstepz, Choice
FM, CK Flash, Martin Larner,
DJ EZ, Ramsey and Fen, Matt
Jam lamont. Currently on the
SOLO records tour PA'ing "wind
and grind" alongside Frances
James, Matt Jam, DJ swing,
MC Whizzard, MC P.S.G.
Got
lots more work to go! But
i'm willing to work me butt
off !:D .
Who
was your inspiration/s?
Girls in the scene like EVE,
Missy Elliot, Donna Cousins
and later on Mz. Dynamite
- who's given me support with
it. Singers like Aaliyah -
R.I.P, Faith Evans! True Talent,
not just people thrown into
music because of their looks
and sex appeal! I guess there
were loads of things which
inspired me to get into it,
nuff love to my Mum and Dad,
my 2 sisters Amanda and Carolyn...my
dog - Homer ;)
What
would you be doing if you
weren't a MC? Still
be at Sixth form at St. Albans
Girls School! :D which is
where I am still anyway, getting
as much education as i can!
Me wantz me back up ;) he
he... Am studying 4 AS levels
and Key skills, Business Studs&economics,
English, I.T and Media Studies.
they're all pretty handy subjects
in this industry anyway!
What
do you think about the commercialisation
of UK Garage? Totally
up to the artist themselves,
people going on calling them
"sell-outs" is a load of cr@p!
_ excuse my lango :) They're
expressing their talents to
a wider range of people, and
more people are knowing what
Garage is, they're making
their moneyŁ so just let them
be - its all good in my view!
I think too many people are
cut up about their *image*
in the scene, why does a tune
have to stay underground to
be a good tune? If a tune
is good then its good, standard.
If its cr@p its cr@p! Just
because your grandma is boppin
along to Daniel Beddingfield
on Capital Fm in the kitchen
don't change the fact that
it's a decent tune, i lie?
;) My opinion, each to their
own. :D .
What
other sort of music are you
into? Anything
and Everything! I don't "only"
listen to a specific genre,
I don't think one call themselves
a "total music fan" if they
only limit themselves to listening
to a specific genre! That's
a love of that genre, NOT
music in general! Hip hop,
Rnb, Drum n bass, house....i'm
op to anything! If I like
a song, then I like it - standard,
doesn't matter if its classical
or flippin Hardcore metal
- *gotta admit im not toooo
keen on a lot of that though*.
my favourite songs range right
across a different load of
genres.

Any
advice for up and coming MCs?
Keep at it! If you know you
have talent, don't be afraid
to show it. Get out there,
take every opportunity you
can and use that as a stepping
stone. Always keep your determination,
MC's - keep writing, DJ's
- keep practising, and keep
up to date with tunes. Send
out Demo's! If people knock
u back use that as a floor
for increasing your determination
in making it!!! Be original,
develop your own style which
people can recognise yourself
by! Good luck!
Any
Shout Outs? Out
to all your crew, My mum and
dad, 2 sisters, and dog-i
luv him! Everyone that's helped
me with stuff, my manager
Alastar Cunningham, Frances
James, DJ Face, Nathan Lockett,
Matt Jam Lamont, Niomi, Poppi,
Keely, Laura, ARISTA/BMG records,
